First of all you will need to see if you have a copy of PKUNZIP.EXE on your PC. If you received a copy of your CBNet Software after Monday, February 19, 1996 you already have it installed on your PC. You can check by following these steps.
Go to DOS. If you are in a directory other than the c:\> (for example c:\windows> )simply type the following at the prompt:
c:\windows>cd \
press ENTER
This should bring you to the c:\> prompt. Now type this command at the C Prompt to check the location of PKUNZIP.EXE on your machine.
c:\>dir /s pkunzip.exe
press ENTER
If there are 1 or more copies of PKUNZIP.EXE on your PC the path to the directory(s) of where PKUNZIP.EXE is will be shown on your screen.
This is what I see on my screen when I type the dir /s pkunzip.exe command.
Volume in drive C is MINDBENDER
Volume Serial Number is 2036-6738
Directory of C:\DOS
PKUNZIP.EXE 29,378 02-01-93 2:04a
Total files listed:
If your copy of PKUNZIP.EXE is not in your C:/DOSor C:/WINDOWS directory follow these steps to move PKUNZIP.EXE or any other files that need to be moved.
c:\> move c:\directory where it is\the file to be moved c:\directory where file is to be moved\the name of file being moved
For Example: If your PKUNZIP.EXE is in your MCAFEE directory. The command to move it to the DOS dierectory would be:
c:\>move c:\mcafee\pkunzip.exe c:\dos\pkunzip.exe
press ENTER
If you don't already have a directory for downloading files to, I suggest you create a directory (or folder) to place any files you download. This makes things far easier to keep track of when you go to extract the compressed files.
So you want to learn to download? Well, it's a simple process once you get on to it, and this page(s) will help you through it. Once you master the fine art of downloading you are well on your way to becoming a full fledged Web Weenie. I'd be willing to bet you never hoped to be one of those before! Here we go.......
Let's check to see if you already have a directory called DOWNLOAD in your CBNetWin Directory.
First go to Main in your Program Manager and select File Manager.
Select the C drive. Double-Click on the yellow folder in front of the C on the left hand side of the window inside your file manager now Double-Click on the yellow folder in front of the CBNetWin directory on the right hand side of the window inside file manager. Check for a directory called DOWNLOAD on the right hand side of the window. If there is a directory called DOWNLOAD you are ready to download now. If not click on FILE then click on CREATE DIRECTORY when it prompts you to give a name type DOWNLOAD now press OK. Now all you have to do is download the file you want from the CBNet Shareware page. This is done by simlpy clicking on the file name you want to download.
An Unknown File Type box will appear prompting you to Save to Disk, Cancel Transfer, or Configure a Viewer. Select Save to Disk or Save File depending on your present version of Netscape.
A Save As box will appear with the File Name you wish to download in the upper left hand corner.
Double-Click on the yellow folder in front of the C:\ prompt in the right-hand side of the box. Select the CBNetWin directory and then the Download directory. Now press the OK button. A Saving Location box will appear on the upper left-hand side of your screen. With a 14,400 bps modem this should take 10 to 15 minutes for the eudor152.zip file.
When the downloading process is finished the Saving Location box will simply disappear.
Now you have succesfully downloaded your first file! To learn to Unzip the file(s) you download.
Now that you have the file on your computer lets unzip it so you can use it. Simply by typing these commands at the prompt.
Go to DOS. If your prompt does not look like this c:\cbnetwin\download> (for example c:\windows>)simply type the following at the prompt:
c:\windows>cd \cbnetwin\download
press ENTER
This should bring you to the c:\cbnetwin\download> prompt. Now to unzip a file for example to unzip Eudora's you would type these command at the prompt if it was another file just replace eudor152.Zip with the file you want to unzip.
c:\cbnetwin\download>dir /p (this command shows all the files in the directory you should see the file you downloaded)
c:\cbnetwin\download>pkunzip eudor152.zip
c:\cbnetwin\download>dir /p (this command shows all the files in the directory. You should see the file you downloaded and the files you just unzipped)
Now to setup the file type this command at the prompt.
c:\cbnetwin\download>setup.exe (sometimes it might be install.exe instead)
Now we want to delete the file in the download directory that was unzipped. So go back to Windows. Then go to Main in your Program Manager and select File Manager.
Select the C drive. Double-Click on the yellow folder in front of the C on the left hand side of the window inside your file manager now Double-Click on the yellow folder in front of the CBNetWin directory on the right hand side of the window inside file manager. Double-Click on the yellow folder in front of the Download directory on the right hand side of the window inside file manager. This should give you a list of all the files in that directory. Now hold down the CTRL button while you select the file you want to delete. When the file(s) to be deleted are selected press the DELETE button.
